Brothers and sisters,
In the sermon last week I reminded us that “Nobody drifts towards holiness.” Pursuing God requires an intentional plan, particularly in a world full of distractions. If you don’t make a plan to pursue the Lord, individually or as a household, your schedules will be co-opted by other stuff.
What would it look like to take some time in the next two weeks to sit down (by yourself, with your spouse, or your friend), grab your journal and calendar, and ask this question: How can I/we pursue Christ together this fall?
Here are three questions I’d take time to answer as you think about pursuing the Lord in the season ahead:
At Mosaic, we believe that the basic threshold of Christian discipleship is regular participation in corporate worship on Sundays and a commitment to meaningful community marked by encouragement, time in God’s word, and prayer with 2-3 other believers.
So, on the foundation of corporate worship on Sundays, how will you step into directing your attention to the Lord? Maybe you’ll sign up to journey through the whole story of the Bible in our Forge Program, or you’ll register for Men’s or Women’s Bible Study, or make plans to start or join a Mosaic Group this fall.
We recently collected a benevolence offering for a missionary in the middle east and our church more than answered the call! At the same time, we have emerging needs and opportunities that require funding - is it time to begin giving to your church? Time to consider updating your financial giving in light of recent raises, bonuses, or promotions?
You can make changes to your giving here.
As we just discovered in James, God calls us to not just be “hearers of the word, but doers of the word.” How can you practice what you preach? How does what you believe shape the way you behave?
How will you look to serve your brothers and sisters in Christ? Walking in the way of Jesus involves more than lip service.
Mike Tyson famously said, “Everyone has a plan till they get punched in the face.”
Life has a way of surprising us, but that doesn’t absolve us from thinking proactively about how to steward what God has entrusted to us.
This fall could be another rushed season in which you bounce from thing to thing OR you could set aside time now to make a prayerful plan about how you and your household will pursue the Lord.
I think you know which one is the wiser course of action.
Let’s move towards it together.
