I was in my dimly lit kitchen filling my water bottle on my way out of the house this morning and I saw an unknown small round bluish brown object on the counter but couldn’t quite make out what it was. All of a sudden I felt a light surge of fear, now to be fair it’s because in my groggy morning mind I thought, “is that a spider?”
Context: Since I was a wee lad I’ve had a fear of spiders.
As I looked at this mystery object on the counter longer I thought, “this isn’t a spider, and I still don’t know what it is, but more importantly why was I a little scared?” And I was stuck on this thought of “why did I feel fear?” I eventually came to the conclusion, “well it’s because on some level I fear unknowns”, things that I don’t know, or understand can cause me to get anxious, a little scared even. And as I thought further I was comforted in the thought that well, fearing the unknown is a universal feeling.
The kid that’s never been on a roller coaster, they’re likely going to fear it as they wait in a line for their first ride. The child that’s never been up in MK Elementary before, they might anxious about leaving with the other kids after midservice dismissal when Promotion Sunday comes (though we’re not here to talk about Promotion Sunday). For the teenager who’s never driven a car before they might feel nervous when they’re handed the keys. And for the boy who’s never asked a girl out he might be scared when it’s time to ask her to the school dance. And for the church member who’s never worked with kids before they might feel fear when the call comes to serve with kiddos. Unknowns can be scary and hard to approach. But we know that God is constantly equipping us for the unknowns, even when we don’t know it.
Mosaic Kids is in need of servant hearted church members who are willing to head the call and step into the unknown. And if it’s not unknown that’s great too! If you’ve served in Mosaic Kids, took a break, now is the time to come back! Return to form, be Michael Jordan coming out of retirement in ‘95. We have an abundance of kiddos being born in this church all the time, and an even more kiddos moving up through our ministry environments currently. We need an abundance of members in our body who are ready and excited to come alongside us in equipping the next generation to belong, believe, and become followers of Christ!
We ask Mosaic Kids volunteers to commit to serving one Sunday morning a month, excluding the months of December and July. If this sounds like a way that you can commit to serving please fill out this link and reach out to any of our Mosaic Kids staff members with any questions!
