One of the reasons I love spending time with students is that you get asked the most challenging and difficult questions. I know you don’t have to have students in your home to know that – because kids will surprise you time and time again with the hardest sorts of questions too.
Time is one of those – it usually leads us to more questions than answers.
But here’s something I’ve learned: you don’t find time—you make it.
Each one of us spends our days doing a whole number of things, and in order to do so – we have to make time for them.
We make time for family and friends.
We make time to work, play, and rest.
We make time to exercise.
We procrastinate, and then make time for house projects.
We make time to read, eat, sleep, and so on.
We make time for church.
We make time for reading, living, and praying God’s word.
We make time for worship, family discipleship, for evangelism, and for generosity.
But for each and all of these – we have to make time to make sure they happen.
None of them just happen. We have to be intentional. Our lives with one another and before God must be thoughtful, guarded, cultivated, and remain open to God’s continual leading as we ask Him to teach us to number our days so that we may get a heart of wisdom. We have to make time for things that are important.
One of the things our church wants to make sure happens is to ensure our students are given regular opportunities to step out of their comfort zones and into faithful ministry that is being carried out by others – near and far.
Which is why this coming week our students are going on our first-ever mission trip. We have 17 of our Mosaic Students heading over to Kaufman, TX to serve with Hidden Acres, as we together get to love and build relationships with young children and kids from the For the Nations community.
Trips like these are great experiences and we are praying that God would use this one to bless those we will serve, mature and grow our students, and support and extend the ongoing ministry of the Hidden Acres team. Pray for us as we are away, and pray the Lord would work wonderfully in the lives of everyone participating.
And even though we talk about making time – we of course know that we can’t actually make or create time. That job is for God, who stands outside of time, yet created it for His own glory and for our good. God created time and everything that is to share with us the greatest news. Our great and glorious God made time so that the most important reality would come to pass – the Son of God for the redemption and salvation of sinners, and for our enjoyment of Him forever.
As we round out the summer and head into the fall – the best way to use our time is to join in the work of our missionary God, who is always at work in the world to see the gospel story spread near and far, filling us with worship, wonder, and good work. You won’t regret making time for that.
