Several months ago, my widowed and nearly-blind mother moved to real Dallas and found herself in a position she hadn’t been in for nearly a decade: a first time guest at an unfamiliar church.

After spending weeks scouring church websites and working up the courage to restart at a new church, she stepped out of her Uber and walked through the front doors of Northwest Bible Church. Within seconds of crossing the threshold, my mother was greeted with a gracious and kind welcome by a complete stranger.

The woman my mom met walked her into the church, took her to the Connections desk and introduced her to the Connections Team Lead. After that, the woman showed my mom the sanctuary and introduced her to the Women’s Minister. Following this, the woman showed her where she and her friends (also all widows) sit and then sat down with her for the church service. After service was over, the ladies invited my mother to lunch where she got to hear all about NWBC and how to get involved with various ministries - they even helped her register for the “Welcome to Northwest” class the following Sunday.

That afternoon, I heard my mother hold back tears on the phone as she told me everything she experienced. Marta Foster is a woman easily befitting Jesus’s category of “one of the least of these” (Mt 25:31-40) and the Connections Ministry at NWBC pursued her like Christ.

In a very real way, my mother experienced Jesus.

Each Sunday morning at Mosaic, our Connections Ministry offers up this same hope: to extend the kindness and welcome of Christ to all who enter Mosaic. As believers united together by Christ, we are told that the fullest version of ourselves - i.e. our best selves - is the one that regularly accepts and hands out the undeserved welcome of Christ to every person they encounter (Romans 15:1-7).

Imagine if the experience my mom had was the normal experience of every first time guest and visitor at Mosaic. Imagine if you, in a clear mirroring of Jesus, got to take part in that life-altering experience for someone else. Imagine if it only took 45 minutes, once a month for you to be able to actively participate in the very divinity of Jesus.

Boy, do I have some great news for you.

On Sunday, August 24th, immediately following service, we will be hosting a meeting for you to come, learn, and sign up for the Mosaic Connections Ministry. This short meeting will help you see the beauty in serving within the local church and give you the path to reflecting Jesus.

Brothers & sisters, someone welcomed you into Mosaic. Now it’s your turn to return the favor.
